1.3 Theme 3 – Analysis of Leadership
In many
businesses, management and leadership are commonly confused. Despite they
retain a number of characteristics in common, they vary in that although all
managers are leaders, not all leaders are managers. Managing and leading are
two complementing skills that go hand in hand (Inc., n.d.). It's impossible to
separate one from another. Manager’s endeavour, consolidate, and integrate,
whereas leaders influence people and help motivate. A leader focuses on the
overall vision, whereas a manager assembles the parts of the daily problem. A
commanding officer is a military phrase for a leader, whereas a division
commander is a military term for a manager (Inc., n.d.).
The differences
between management and leadership
Leaders aren't
simply concerned with performance; they're also concerned with concepts. The
main objective of a leader is to think high - level understanding and express
how that big mindset might very well benefits of the project across the
organization. Individuals must then practice able to produce opinions and
suggestions towards large picture challenges as part of the planning process
(Julia Martins, 2021).
Leaders are mostly
the ones that empower their teams to achieve their best performance.
Individuals may be an effective leader by influencing members of the team to
acknowledge the importance of its notion once the organization may well have
agreed on a position to take individuals become a member of this kind of course
of action or otherwise.
A manager's role,
on the other hand, is to concentrate on how to transform theories into
practice. This could also involve organizing activities, giving instructions, and
setting a budget to meet organisational targets. Managers provide assistance
and guidance to their members of the team as they go about each other’s routine
tasks. Managers are the key persons who are in charge of evaluating and
authorizing paperwork. Furthermore, a smart manager gives members of the team
for the authority to do excessive result projects.
The Similarities
between management and leadership
Management and
leadership both share the effectiveness of their important roles to achieve their
organizational aims and objectives that are:
Make a link
between the job and the goals of the organization. Both
managers and leaders must comprehend how each of the team members individual
work bring benefits to team and organization objectives in order to perform at the
highest level of their job. By establishing this insight, team members will be
able to assigned duties for their work and complete their most significant task
priorities.
The importance of
two-way exchange of information cannot be overstated.
Two-way exchange of information is the greatest approach to ensure that your
team feels valued and treated respectfully, whether you're presenting a prime
objective to the members of the team or engaging with a member of the team
during a one-on-one discussion. Develop gathering advice, understanding what both
managers and leaders observe, and then engaging on it to improve the two-way exchange
of information skills.
Contribute for the team members high level of development. Team members can be supported and mentored in a variety of different methods. Leaders and managers are equally involved in supporting for the team members to perform for their best performance, from developing and nurturing to career development interactions and one-on-one discussions.
John Adair’s Model
John Adair's model
is an action centred leadership that describes a one-of-a-kind leadership
approach that was revolutionary at the time. The framework describes successful
leadership in tangible phases, providing a functional blueprint for leaders at
all levels, ambitious managers, Human Resource Management, and development
managers to succeed in innovative leadership roles (Matthew Channell, 2021).
John Adair's
Action Centred Leadership methodology is effective because of its extremely
focused and concrete strategy. The main objective on the particular project,
teamwork, and interested party in this model retains the focus on the important
independent variables that may determine the course of any successful
leadership career path.
While John Adair’s model adopts a realistic and comprehensive approach to leadership, some opponents believe that the model hierarchical perspective is unsuited for futuristic organizations' linear structures. This is predicated on the idea that current leadership styles favour empowerment and collaborative innovation, whereas Adair's old approach may appear dictatorial.

example of a good leadership skills
Netflix does not
want for the leader of the project tasks to plan all of the major choices or to
be in charge of every greater event affecting their direct subordinates. Netflix
wants the leaders to spell out the facts so that team members of the
organization are involved and knowledgeable enough to make their own decisions,
even when huge amounts of money are at stake (Hal Koss, 2020).
The owner and the founder
of Netflix is Reed Hastings. Reed Hastings’ performance for the skills and
ideas of leadership such as entrepreneurial brilliance and mutual understanding
are the greatest ways to define Reed Hastings’ leadership talents. Reed Hastings’
perception to institutional evaluations, private time apart, and incentive
arrangements differs significantly from the conventional (frequently
irritating) American business standards (Victor J. Goncalves, 2018).
Private time apart
for Reed Hastings’ way of leading skills whereas the team members of the industry
are provided with the opportunity to obtain as often time off as they need; the
industry’s managers and team members have to cooperate to figure it out.
Reed Hastings’
leadership way of institutional evaluations is obliterated; therefore, team
members and managers of the industry are encouraged to talk about productivity
as a natural part of the organization’s daily communications.
The leadership skills that Reed Hastings’ implement for the incentive arrangements have no extra incentives wages, instead that team members of the industry are treated based on the market basis payment and have the option of choosing how much of their income will be in the form of shares opportunities.
Real-life industry
example of bad leadership skills
The Wells Fargo industry,
along with the other organizations that have bad leadership skills, had a
risk-evaluation procedure in place, but even not one team members in the risk
evaluation of the organization seemed to believe there was a real possibility that
workers in the industry would defraud customers (Geoff Loftus, 2016). Even the
risk managers performed their duties and issued a warning, but each of the
individuals inside the industry didn’t took action. In any case, the financial
services industry has neglected to help alleviate the danger.
When it comes to
industry cultural understanding, a lot of customers in the business world
consider Wells Fargo organization have a bad leadership skill. It’s tough to
calculate the return of investment in the industry cultural environment, yet
also cultural understanding is a sharp end phenomenon (Geoff Loftus, 2016). It
is the leader responsibility to initiate, structure, and empower it. It’s
difficult to picture the controversy spreading so widely if Wells Fargo industry
maintained a high level of integrity and sincere compassionate for its potential
buyers. John Gerard Stumpf, who is the leader, founder, and the Chairman
Executive Officer of Wells Fargo financial services industry, performed a poor
task of managing the industry’s core values of cultural understanding.
Recommendation
So, every aspect
of John Adair’s leadership model is interdependent. There isn’t a single
element that can operate independently. Each of the organization team members
must recognize the capabilities and limitations of the members of the team in
order to be a successful leader. Given for one example, one of the workers has
a difficulty with self-discipline. The recommendation should be to provide them
with extensive development coaching in order to improve for each individual’s
structure of their productivity. If the issue is not addressed, it may worsen
until it has a detrimental influence on a prime responsibility.
In my opinion, John
Adair’s model of action centred leadership style is an effective management
paradigm. It entails analysing and reassessing the duties of an organization
team members on a timely basis to spot challenges and develop improvements before
the problems become major difficulties towards the organization. In the long
term, preventing mistakes will help in doing the task a lot simpler.

I've learnt a lot from John Adair's Model, that despite their advantages, some organizations did not prefer using this model. It's interesting to know which organizations have good or bad leadership.
ReplyDeleteThe ability to understand culture is really important, as this is where conflicts might arise, and with good management this can be overcome and even brought to the benefit of teamwork.
ReplyDeleteIf the management level and corporate culture of the enterprise are not good enough, then a small incident caused by this is enough to bring a devastating blow to the company.
