Theme 5 - Your Vision of Leadership
One of the most important leadership qualities that managers or leaders must have is vision. Vision of leadership shapes the organisation’s culture, manages decisions, and supports qualities of leadership in achieving the organisation’s aims and objectives (“6 secrets to leadership vision”, 2021). The vision of leadership motivates individuals to respect and follow the leaders expectation, to put in the best effort of the skills, and to create a change. The vision of leadership has a huge impact on an organisation in terms of doing business with and accomplishing the organisation’s objectives with the best effort. Without a solid vision of leadership, there is no successful leader that has ever achieved anything, though that is not all the need that is required for a leader. Leaders should not just make the leadership vision very apparent, leaders should also be able to successfully explain and guide the vision to their subordinates and arouse their interest in it (“6 secrets to leadership vision”, 2021).
Using Johari Window’s Model to help illustrates my vision towards leadership
Trust and open communication should be at the top of my priority list as a leader. It will be difficult to work through any complicated challenges or concerns with my team without trustworthiness since efficient and transparent communication would be very tough. Johari Window’s model is a useful model to improve and enhance the concept of leadership since it allows a leader to discover aspects where they require to improve and challenges that they are facing. The model is excellent for convincing people to have honest communication in the workplace and for learning how to develop trust, two main components that could not be exaggerated in a thriving workplace (“Developing leadership with the Johari Window”, 2018).
Using John Adair’s Action Centred Leadership model to help illustrates my vision towards leadership
As a leader responsible for completing the task, the leader must first determine the team’s goals and vision, including the entire team’s intention and strategy. In short, the leader will be determining the desired outcome. Leader will also have to figure out what resources the leader has, either employees, procedures, or actual things. Secondly, devise a strategy for accomplishing the task. Expectations, obligations, and evaluations should all be set, as well as responsibilities. Leader will create criteria, track team performance, and provide updates on the team’s major objective. It is beneficial to evaluate, reexamine, and change the leader’s team performance (“John Adair’s action-centred leadership model”, 2017).
As a leader, it is necessary to develop productivity and attitude criteria as soon as feasible. Leaders need to agree on these criteria and then ensure that the subordinates of the team are effectively conveyed throughout the organisation. Early on, leaders will also want to observe and maintain concentration, discipline, and integrity. The leader needs to manage the team that also involves planning about the goals, but the leader should be more concerned with the team’s performance. Leaders have to be certain that any team disputes or disagreements are recognized and managed, and that any changes in the team’s balance or composition are handled (“John Adair’s action-centred leadership model”, 2017).
Individual team members’ characteristics, talents, capabilities, interests, goals, and challenges should all be respected, and as a leader, should support subordinates in their own improvement and development. Individual tasks and goals should be changed, and leaders should give lots of positive feedback and acknowledgement as well as constructive criticism. Leaders should take advantage of the chance to build critical competencies and characteristics by rewarding excellent performance with more responsibilities, advancement, or prestige.
The Real-Life Industry Examples of an Effective leadership
Apple (Steve Jobs)
Steve Jobs’ leadership style is best described as an autocratic style in terms of further educational leadership techniques. Steve took a “my way or the highway” mindset towards effective leadership, considering that he was completely accountable for his team’s effort of action and vision (“Kat Boogaard”, n.d.). He understood that he was the leader and had the authority and that he didn’t require his team’s involvement or insight to maintain the business to success. He thought that making all of the decisions created the business more productive and successful.
Walt Disney
Walt Disney has been a perfect illustration of democratic leadership, having created “the most magical place on earth” as well as at least 150 of our preferences towards childhood movies and tv shows (“Goldsby & Mathews”, 2018). A thorough animated movie needed hundreds of artists and countless hours to create. Every worker working in Walt Disney's projects needed to be able to work with exceptional scrutiny to quality. Walt Disney created some of the most beautiful and timeless animated productions throughout history by clearly explaining the overall objective and enabling valuable contribution. Although all of the tiers of significant talent from so many artists, Walt Disney’s leadership approach was effective since the final decision has always been Walt Disney himself.
Recommendation
A leader needs to be able to build and manage a great team of people who can work together to achieve a common objective in a peaceful manner. One of the most significant leadership capabilities is team building, which allows all of us to guarantee that every member of the team understands their own responsibilities and goals. It also helps to create a happy working atmosphere, which boosts quality and performance. Other leadership characteristics and talents, such as excellent communication and management skills, are necessary to build a strong team. As a leader to have effective leadership towards the business world and to develop a team within an organisation, must also understand the strengths and limitations of each member of the team in order to effectively distribute responsibilities and get the maximum potential outcomes.
